"Thanks, Doris. What do you think of the Raintree Flex Panels? This saddle does not have any of that. It has a leather cover that goes over the saddle pad, and then the saddle. Is the flex panel something I should look into?"

Tack

I have been looking for a saddle that fits, provides comfort for both me and my horse, and enables him to gait freely. Anyone have any ideas. I am just looking for fun and comfort - nothing showy.

About Me:
I have my first Peruvian Paso out of Debbie Dutton's Fandango ranch. He is 9 years old. I have been looking for a saddle for him for the last three months and wonder whether or not the Peruvian Saddle is the way to go for just plain fun on the trail. What do you think?

We also had a great ride today.

My new trail saddle has all kinds of rings and strings to tie all my saddle bags and jackets to. It also has the rings for the breast collar, if I want to use the breast collar, which I will be using when I go on the hills. TTR Shalimar is young and just learning to ride the trails. Also she needs to get some more weight on her. So I will be using the breast collar and crupper.

If you have the other kind of saddle that I think you have, you don't have the rings and strings. Don still uses a big old saddle bag that he attaches to the back of the saddle. It is where the hooks under the flap of the skirt, you will see hooks for the tail piece.

Don't worry what your friends think! YOU HAVE A PERUVIAN AND THEY DON'T. Show your boy off and enjoy him.

Enjoy your ride this morning! We too will be riding today.

Is the buckle still attached to the saddle? If you do decide to keep this saddle, you can order a new crupper from any of the tack folks on this list. If you don't want to use the crupper, make sure the buckle is removed. Other wise that buckle can rock back and forth across your horses back and might cause injury.

I love the stirrups and stirrup straps. The straps hang flat on the horse. Western has that twist that you can feel with your legs. Once on a trail ride I was taking my jacket off. I got it caught and without me knowing it, I was slapping my horse. She looked at me and just turned and walked slowly away, leaving me unbalanced and I slipped off. One of my friends was with me. She said Doris if you had a western saddle with western stirrups, you could have caught you foot in the stirrup and been dragged. I have never forgotten that.

Another thing. My husband was riding his horse and they slipped in the mud. Down they went. Daytona Layed right on Don's leg. His horse instantly got up leaving Don on the ground rolling around. All kinds of things could have happened. A crushed leg or foot for Don, or broken leg or foot. As it turned out, Don had damaged his muscles only. We have wondered if the stirrups helped protect him, also the Pellonera help cushion his leg. It does seem logical that they could have helped.

Everyone that rides with our horses and saddles, say the saddles are so very comfortable. Sooo! I say - why not ride in comfort for both you and your horse, as well as with style!

I just bought a trail/show saddle from Alberto Lummis. It has a breast collar and crupper for those up and down hills. If you don't want the crupper, this crupper buckle can unscrew. The saddle has lots of tie downs for your horse packs. It just fits the horse and me. German Baca looked it over in a clinic and told us that this saddle is designed to keep one centered.

On top of that it is all just gorgeous!

Whatever you buy, please make sure the saddle fits your Peruvian. So many riders insists on buying a western, or English. Many western saddles are too long for the backs of Peruvians, causing back sores. Other saddles can pinch.
