"The experienced trail horse part is the difficult thing. I have several saddle broke geldings, but it will take several months of riding: side of the road, cattle ranches, the mountains, the beach, to get them to the stage where I would…"
"Going over a tarp is what you would want if you were buying a horse to do arena trail classes, ACTHA, or trail trial competitions, but I can assure you that in the 1700 miles of NATRC competition (39 rides -- consisting of two day 60 mile rides)…"
"If you could find a trainer to "tune up" an already saddle broke PP and put some trail training on him, I have several horses bred for trail at my place(their dams have substantional NATRC CTR mileage, and their sires are enfrenadura or…"
"I have no doubt that other breeds and grades are doing this. The Rocky Mountain breeders and trainers in this area are selling a lot of horses this way. I just don't see it happening in the PP world. The emphasis is still on…"
"A really made trail horse like Junior or my late El Sinchi Roca take a long time to get to that level (I figured about 300-500 miles in NATRC competition to get the variety of experiences). Yet potential buyers seem to think that since they…"

I have been in the Peruvian breed since 1978, when I bought a pregnant *Piloto daughter (my first horse ever!). I campaigned Peruvian horses that I bred in NATRC competitive trail riding, with my gelding El Sinchi Roca becoming the only Peruvian to earn the NATRC 1000 Mile Horse Award. I have been active in mangement of our two local NATRC rides since 1988, and have also managed an AERC endurance ride.
In addition, I am a NAPHA carded show steward.
Saw your message on our "Video Chat" We were in the "PHW Chat". We are beta testing a Video Chat, with video and audio. Next time, I'll send out better directions and I'm sorry I was not more clear for everyone. This is a learning curve for us as well, and I truly hope you will participate with us next time. We really want to make this site a useful and interactive resource for all of our members, and will keep striving towards that goal.
We were there...small group. We held an informal chat session. If you are willing, we can reschedule the trail topic. If you look at the bottom of the screen, you should see a toolbar with "PHW Chat". If you click on the "PHW Chat" it will open a chat window with all the participants.
We missed you! Mary Stanford was on...she said she knows you well and has participated in Competitive Trail as well.
