Hey all,

Dr. Glenn and Sallie Cochran, longtime Texas Peruvian Horse owners and trainers, are coming to Charleston Illinois the first weekend of November to help give a clinic in sidesaddle (Sallie) and in learning how to supple your horse and help to further the bond you have with your horse through in-hand work and in the saddle (Glenn). Also coming is Lillian Chaudhary, a California expert on sidesaddle fit and an excellent saddle repairer and builder.

We have a great venue with a… Continue

Hi Ruth- That is a great idea. Hopefully Sally Jo wont' mind us inviting ourselves over to her neck of the woods for a trail ride! And yes...lets let this August heat pass, October is a beautiful time of year to trail ride in this area. Let me know when, and it's a "date". Best, Laura

Hi Ruth- What area does Sally Jo live in? I looked on mapquest and you and I are about 4 hours apart YIKES! Would still like to find the time to get together for a visit, it would be great to see your horses! Have a fun Labor Day weekend. Laura

yup, my dressage trainer had to get on selena to just try the gait and completely fell in love with her. Now I take both young(ish) horses to lessons, and she rides one (and very well, too) while she watches me work the other horse and offers suggestions. It's great for all of us, and yes, I realize I am lucky therein. Unfortunately she'll probably be leaving this little barn soon to go on to bigger things.

Thanks so much, Ruth for you bits of wisdom on riding aside. I know what you mean about the problem with English discipline trainers...they just don't seem to get it about how wonderful the gaited horse is. I have talked with several very good dressage trainers & they look at me like they don't know what to do with my horses......not only that, but when asked if they would add a couple gaited classes to their open shows, you'd think I just landed from Mars or something. I did take one dressage lesson which was a total hoot! The trainer was asking me more question about the gaited horses than teaching me much, We had fun anyway.
Happy riding aside! We'll keep working on it.
Thanks again,

Hi Ruth,
Your costumes are wonderful. Love the pictures.
Riding aside is so much fun! I & my daughters are just starting. We have 2 Peruvian Sidesaddles.
They are so comfortable & balanced well. We have been riding around the 10 acre farm for about 6 months now practicing. Hoping by next summer to do parades.
It takes a little bit of work to train the horses when you only have one leg to give cues. My horses respond now to a light touch of a crop on the right side as an aid. I would prefer not to carry a crop & have them respond to weight shift & light rein cues. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Ruth-

I love the photos that you posted of the parade you did...we have a forum for parade activities as well... to let our members know of parades in their area, to increase awareness, and participation.

All of y'all ladies looked fantastic in your sidesaddle costumes, and the photo shows how much fun you are having! Wow 27 and still parading around town...that is wonderful. Thanks for posting the photos!

I know we are quite a few hours apart...but would like to get together, and if you are interested working on expanding PP presence here in IL. We are too far (literally) and few between. It would be great to put an IL team together.

I hope you take my comments on your photo "tongue in cheek"...I really did laugh out loud...which is not easy to accomplish. I think I come in second to Lauren's stoic sensibilities. Well...maybe not second more like 5th or 6th...but if I laugh due to to the written word...then it is like making Lauren laugh in person! (Which I'm sure you know is not easy!)

I know my mom is very fond of you, so hope we can get to know each other better.

because although my career is in high tech, i have not figured out the procedure (it is like when our part time receptionist change the toner when all of engineers cannot figure it out). i have though started selected pics for my page, and a vid or two, if the format fits, and will be adding these soon.
