About Me:
Sandy and Barry Nathan entered the Peruvian horse world in the late 1980s. "I went to an open house at a neighbor's ranch in Woodside (Silicon Valley CA) and was spellbound," says Sandy Nathan. "I could not believe a horse could be so smooth. I'd ridden Quarter Horses, and other western horses, showing all over Northern California as a junior. I rode in stock horse classes, trail, and equitation, as well as belonging to a parade and drill
team, the San Mateo County Junior Sheriff's Posse.

"I ran home and told Barry the good news about Peruvian horses. He was less

"'Horses should be extinct,' he said. 'They're too big and take up resources from more adaptive animals.'

"I bought our first two Peruvians with my own money.

"That was then, this is now. Barry got the Peruvian bug and rides almost every day, burning up the hills (not literally) around our Santa Ynez Valley ranch. He's the 'Peruvian Paso horseback ambassador' to our subdivision.

"In our more than twenty years in the Peruvian Paso world, we have 'worn all the hats,' showing our horses to a bunch of championships and a few champion of championships. As breeders, we've produced more than thirty fine Peruvian horses. We've taken part in trail rides and demonstrations. Our stallion, CAPOEIRA BSN, won the Great American Peruvian Horse Race at Rancho Chahuchu three times, being declared Laureado. He was also a Champion of Champions Performance Stallion before we sold him to Australia.

"Being associated with the Peruvian Horse has enriched our lives, for what comes along with your new Peruvian Paso horse is the Peruvian Paso community!

"We've spent many wonderful hours in the stands, being nervous out of our minds,
watching our kids, other people's kids, and our spouses ride in competitions. (Not to mention riding in shows ourselves.) We remember many wonderful friends in Northern California from the 80s and 90s. And how about all the Southern California ranches?

"We're in retirement mode now, down to six horses from a one time high of 22 horses. Our retirement campaign will be complete when we have 4 horses: enough to fill our 4-
horse trailer.

"Paradoxically, our last six horses are the best we've had. Barry's favorite riding horse ever is Leon Gitano BSN, a buckskin stallion by Ventarrones RCh and out of our beloved La Soberbia. We have two great mares from Raul & Joanne del Solar's stallions, another by Galileo, and the cute buckskin guy, Tecolote BSN, Barry's riding in his photo. He's by our Capoeira BSN. Barry rides them all.

"And what about Sandy Nathan--me? Basically, I fell apart. Or my right leg did. I'm currently recovering from having my ankle fused (think screws and X-rays), waiting to find out whether I'll ride again. I had the surgery last September and can truly say that having my ankle fused was way less horrible than having my knee replaced, which I did back in 2001.

"Bionic woman, that's me. I hope to ride again. My horse, Shakti BSN, Champion of Champions Performance Mare, looks very tempting. Also in better shape than me.

"I've taken two writing books. What else can I do?

"I've done very well, winning 8 national awards with my two books. ALL OF MY

"Email me and I will send you a FREE photo-illustrated e-book, TECOLOTE FINDS A
FRIEND, about a premature Peruvian horse born on our ranch. Tecolote (the horse
Barry's riding in our picture) had to fight to live from his first breath. He endured the worst loss any youngster can. Would he find a place in the herd?

"My websites and blogs offer TONS of interesting stuff. Check them out. I'm planning a West Coast (and maybe more) tour this spring to launch my new book, NUMENON: A TALE OF MYSTICISM & MONEY.

"Meet me at: My web site My blog My blog for writers

All the best,

Sandy Nathan

Hi, everyone! I'd like to share a free e-book I wrote. It's the true story of a premature foal born on our ranch a few years back. Tecolote had to fight for life from his first breath. He overcame the worst loss any youngster can. Would he find a place in the herd, or remain an outsider forever?

This is an uplifting story for kids of all ages.

To get it, click on the link to my website, SANDY NATHAN'S WEBSITE––TECOLOTE DOWNLOAD. Scroll down the page and hit download. I also included an INCREDIBLE slide show of The Holston Conference Gathering, the Native American spiritual retreat that inspired my book Stepping Off the Edge. Hi, everyone! Greetings from Santa Ynez on a cold February night. I discovered a resource that can be used by anyone to promote or share photos.

Have you heard of They do computer generated slide shows to music. Great for book videos, showing off vacations, anything. They're free for under 30 seconds, $30 a year for an unlimited number of longer ones. Here are two examples, for my books:

Hi Sandy and Barry,
recently 2 of your mares - Angelita de Venganza BSN and Vilasa BSN - that you sent to australia have come up for sale. I was hoping you wouldn't mind giving me some history on them both. I.e. did they have any foals with you, if so do you have pics? I have someone here in NZ very interested especially in Angelita. Vilasa apparently has some trust issues, has she always been like that? I thought it could perhaps be some form of breakdown from travelling.
Any info you could provide on their history woud be much appreciated. It's a very exciting prospect to get another mare over here to add to our few numbers.
By the way Sandy, I'm embarrassed to say i haven't read your books yet. I seem to have stalled on reading lately - i think i might have to get glasses soon. How's the sequel/s going? :-) What was your decission, 1 big one or a few smaller ones?

Hi Sandy and Barry!!! Of course I remember you both! I'm glad you found me on this. I'm still new to it so I haven't figured out how to use it fully. How are you? I hope everything is going well for you both!

Hi Sandy- Thanks, I guess I misunderstood. I thought you wanted to place a direct download link for your free e-book. I see you have a link to your website, which promotes your books, with the free e-book available after signing up for your newsletter. It's pretty borderline, but don't think it crosses the line entirely. Thanks, PHW
