Stillwell Ranch Ride

Posted on April 26, 2009 at 6:52pm 0 Comments

I have had the pleasure of attending several trail rides here in Texas in the past 3 months. The first one this year, was the Stillwell Ranch Trail Ride down at Big Bend. I was also very privilaged to have a very good friend of mine from Michigan come down and join me on this ride, and also the Santa Fe Trail Ride which went from Caps Texas, to San Angelo Texas. She had never had the privilage of riding a Peruvian Paso, and she really enjoyed… Continue

Great Day

I posted a picture of a cute little gray Peruvian Paso Mare in my pics. That cute little mare used to live around the corner from me 11 years ago. She was my introduction to the Peruvian Paso breed, even if it was, only at a distance. When I first saw Nadia, and her wonderfully fancy footfall, I was mezmerized, by her gracefullness and her beauty. Years have passed since then. I moved away from that wonderful little town of Bronte TX, and my husband and I relocated to Abilene TX. When we moved… Continue

I left him at a friend's in Grayling while the trailer was getting fixed. I rigjumped for my friend, 62 yrs old, who was crossing for the first time in 18 yrs. She did great on her TWH. She ended up having so much fun I rig jumped for her in September and she crossed again!!! I think Doc got so tired on the MTRA ride because he was trying to keep up with Sterling who paced his way across the state.

Haven't heard from you for a long time!!! How was your summer? I found out Doc can't keep boots on. I have the newest version of Easyboots and Renegades and both just fly off his feet!!! it is sooo frustrating. In May my sisters and I met and rode in Shawnee National Forest in Ill. Then Memorial Day weekend we went to the UP and rode there. Then we went on the MTRA first june ride. My poor Doc was so tired by then, after three days, when we pulled into McKinley camp the rear axle fell off my trailer. Then when I rode Doc into camp he was so tired he couldn't hold his head up to eat, I put the bucket under his chin and he ate.

Susan - do you use a saddle pad with your treeless saddle? if so, what kind, does it have to be a "treeless" pad? And what about boots. Doc has been barefoot since I got him 1 1/2 yrs ago. My friends/family's horses are also barefoot and they use boots on their front feet. Do you have boots for your horses? One sister uses Renegades (sp?) and the rest use easy boots. Thanks!! Think spring - it's SNOWING just north of us!!

It was too hard to have a prepurchase exam done on Doc, she didn't have a regular vet, they did it themselves. So I had an exam done when I got him him home, and had his legs ultrasounded for DSDL. there was a slight swelling in his back legs. but he had been SHOD same as the other quarter horses she had and his feet were very long when he got home. swelling has gone down and he has been brought back down to normal angle and length and barefoot. so haven't had the ultrasound redone and won't unless I notice any changes in his legs.

i I went with a friend earlier this week to look at horses and she bought a black walker, 8 yrs old. She hasn't had horses in years, and she has had walkers in the past. The seller asked if I had a horse and when I said I had a Peruvian she said her sister had one, but she had to sell it because of problems with her ankles, which "is common with Peruvians because of the paddling". I didn't even get into it with her. Because they are so rare in MI I think there is a lot of prejudice against them. So looking forward to my friend and I hitting the trails again as of old.

So sad when we lose our animal companions, can't imagine losing so many in such a short amount of time. Know how hard it is to find the right horse. Good luck to your husband. Sometimes it's a once in a lifetime connection. Got the trailer and truck, now getting them ready to go. Got the hitch & electric brake put on truck. getting new tires for trailer this week. It is Eminence, MO that my sisters go to every year. Hopefully Robin will be able to go this year. Her husband has just completed treatment and it looks very good.

it is weird that they react to him that way, but it's true!!! I'll have to look up his papers to see what his full name is. He is registered in Canada. He was in PA for six years and now in Michigan.

Oh, just one more thing - the Missouri foxtrotter and the spotted saddle horse don't like the sound of Doc's feet, the beat sound is so different it still is startling to them.
