About Me:
After riding, showing and training a variety of non-gaited horses my entire life, I was heartbroken by the thought of a life without horses. An auto accident and subsequent spinal fusion ended my equine career. I began to wonder if life without horses could provide anything worthwhile. Luckily I was introduced to this amazing breed of horse in 1993. It renewed my zest for life and allowed me to continue a life with horses.

I still own one of the first two Peruvian horses we ever purchased. Nevasca "Cookie" is in charge of the herd at 22 years of age. The other went to his rest at the age of 24 fall 2012. Rufian Amaroso will be miseed by all. I have a very sassy “baby” Oro Luna (my pretty palomino) as well as my "baby daddy" Oro Del Rio CHR and my mom’s wonderful babysitter Amorio. We added Corazon Del Rio, a pretty little bay mare, spring 2013. She is a petite little angel - very different from my other 2 mares! I also have another trouble-maker in my herd. Thunder seems to get into everything. I have to watch him constantly! My 4-legged family is one of the greatest joys in my life. To hear them eating, playing or nickering (which they do if they see me in the window or on the deck) is like music to my ears. UPDATE-SUMMER 2015! Cora has found her place in the world. Another Peruvian horse friend was looking for a horse for her son. Sam & Cora hit it off immediately. He now has his very own Peruvian Pony!

After working with horses from other breeds, I truly believe Peruvian horses are smarter, more sensitive, have bigger hearts and are more beautiful than any other type of horse. Their intuition, ability to take care of their riders and willingness to try just about anything you ask make it very easy to fall in love! They are my passion and my obsession.

Sometimes all the planets align and everything falls perfectly into place. Such was the weekend of the Chris Austin Best of Both Worlds clinic. The weather was amazing. The instruction was exceptional. The facility was outstanding. The attendees were remarkable. The improvement was measurable. Specific lecture parts of the clinic were followed by serendipitous examples of behavior from the horses to prove Chris’s points! Since this event wasn’t a fundraiser, the costs were kept as low as…

Lessons from a Peruvian Horse

PHW asked what Peruvian Horses have taught us... here's my Mom's story.

Several years ago, my mom was in a horrific tractor accident. Not a fancy, new tractor with safety features. Not for Mom. She had a 1948 Ford 8N antique tractor she just loved. She was back-blading her manure pile in the winter. Most of it was frozen. (It was 30 below zero when she was working.) But some of it was warm and soft. She hit a soft section when she was going backwards up the pile. The tractor tipped…

You know I have been talking for years about the actha events but never really knew of many around here. I have been thinking the same about finding out the requirements and getting some events in the area...it would be alot of fun!

Cora is doing so well. Thank you so very much. Sam just loves her! They are a hoot to watch!

I can't thank you enough for helping me to lift myself out of this morass, and treat him as though it were not DSLD.  I'm guardedly hopeful.  And thank you Peruvian World for giving me a community that understands this agony.

I am so behind in many things... sending thank you's might be one of them.  I received the retrancas!  If I forgot to send thanks ...shame on me!  Normally I do that instantaneously when thanks should be applied.  But I am afraid I have possibly become scatterbrained in the insanity of my life!  I now have this huge mountain of tack in my livingroom that needs cleaning, mending, moving or using!  It is growing and my new tackroom is delayed due to bad weather... Will spring ever arrive so I can see finally what it will be like to have a special place all horse people dream of?  Hope the business of your life is not as crazy!  But crazy is often good in an odd sort of way!  ;)

Hi Michele!  Thanks for the heads up on the retrancas!!  Awe, you did not have to clean them!  They certainly could not have been as nasty as that one I just got on ebay.....check this out.. Cant wait to get the whole ensamble completed and on the horse.. guess I will have more pix to come!  Thanks for your  encouragement and advice and all!
